Berth & Yard Operations

Berth and yard operations are critical components of container terminal management. Vessels are moored at a designated berth to unload and load cargo. Then the containers are transported and stored in the yard area using equipment like yard cranes and transfer vehicles.

    Berth Operations

At Colombo West International Terminal, Berth Operations are carried out using automated Ship to Shore cranes to handle the loading and unloading of containers from vessels which can carry even 24,000+ TEUs. Further, fully electric internal trucks are used to transport different types of containers to designated yard locations. The berth operations process is continuously monitored and managed through a Terminal Operating System (TOS). This is to optimise crane productivity and minimise vessel turnaround times.

    Yard Operations

Yard operations involve the use of fully automated CRMGs to handle containers with precision. This method ensures efficient stacking and retrieval with minimal human intervention.

Our 65 ha yard is segmented to safely store and handle various types of containers viz import, export, reefer, and transhipment containers. This setup helps keep things running smoothly and allows for quick access. The TOS includes real-time tracking and monitoring of container movements. This ensures accurate information for managing inventory and planning operations.
