• A massive collection of containers at the CWIT yard.

Container Handling

CWIT utilises cutting-edge automation technologies to enhance container handling efficiency, precision, and safety. Remote-operated Ship-to-Shore (STS) cranes ensure rapid unloading and loading to vessels, all coordinated through an integrated Terminal Operating System (TOS). Fully automated Dual Cantilever Rail-Mounted Gantry (CRMG) cranes optimise yard operations for quick container retrieval. Automated Gate Systems with OCR and RFID streamline identification and documentation.

Types of Containers We Handle

  • Standard Dry Containers

Standard Dry Container handling is managed through the terminal operating system from ship arrival and berthing to discharge and storage. Our container handling operations strictly adhere to safety protocols in crane operations, container lifting and container yard operations.

  • Reefer Containers

Before the arrival of containers, the terminal operator receives information about the container's contents and temperature requirements. Upon arrival, the containers are discharged from the vessel transported to the reefer yard and plugged into electrical outlets. Then containers are inspected for damage and monitored to ensure optimal airflow and temperature consistency.

  • Open-Top Containers

Open-top container handling includes pre-preparation, proper equipment and personnel, inspection, and securing the chassis. During the loading and unloading, our teams ensure proper cargo distribution and weight limits while avoiding sudden movements.

  • Flat Rack Containers

Flat Rack containers are designed for transporting loads that exceed standard dimensions in height or width. At CWIT the loading and unloading process of flat rack containers involves a specialised method called Lift On - Lift Off (LOLO) method.

  • High Cube Containers

Due to their increased height, High Cube containers are provided with specialised crane operations, dedicated storage areas, precise positioning to ensure safe loading and unloading and additional attention to height clearance during movement and stacking.

  • Tank Containers

Tank Container handling requires strict safety protocols due to the hazardous or sensitive nature of the liquid cargo. CWIT features equipment and infrastructure including dedicated loading arms, piping systems, and appropriate safety gear to ensure safe operations that comply with relevant regulations and protocols.

  • Empty Container

At CWIT, efficient Empty Container handling can help reduce unnecessary truck movements and associated emissions while maximising space usage.
